Policy
Minnesota State University, Mankato operates a video camera security system for the purpose of creating a safer environment for all those who live, work and visit the campus. The surveillance of public and restricted areas is intended to deter crime and assist in protecting the safety and property of the university community. This policy addresses the university's safety and security needs while respecting and preserving individual privacy.
A strategic goal has been set for each campus building to have at least one keyless entry point with a security camera for after-hours access. This will enhance the student experience by leveraging today's technology capabilities to improve safety for them as well as for faculty and staff.
Video surveillance and monitoring will be conducted in a manner consistent with all existing university policies including, but, not limited to those that cover nondiscrimination, sexual harassment, privacy and freedom of expression.
No video surveillance or recording equipment may be installed on campus property or in campus buildings without the written approval of the Director of Security unless explicitly excluded in this policy.
The existence of this policy does not imply or guarantee that cameras will be monitored in real time 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
