Policy
Minnesota State University, Mankato through its Facilities Management Physical Plant complies with Minnesota State Statutes, Governor’s Orders, and Federal Standards impacting heating, cooling, lighting, indoor air quality, and safety standards.
Procedure
Environmental and task lighting standards are adopted to be those of the Illumination Engineering Society (IES) for the design of new construction, for renovation, and for purposes of lighting evaluations. Design or installation of the area or task lighting will not exceed the midpoint of those standards.
This policy recognizes that individual medical conditions may require deviation from the above standards. Individual requests for specific deviations accompanied by documentation from the individual’s health care provider will be submitted to Human Resources for employees and Accessibility Resources for students, followed by consultation with Facilities Management to determine an effective accommodation.
Rationale
The Illumination Standards policy supports Minnesota State Mankato’s commitment to provide a safe, comfortable and productive working and learning environment on our campus, to model responsible environmental stewardship, and to comply with state and federal requirements for energy efficiency.
2020 MINNESOTA ENERGY CODE Provides energy-conserving standards for the design, construction, alteration, renovation, and repair of residential and commercial buildings. The Energy Code contains design and construction standards regarding heat-loss control, illumination, and climate control.
