Solicitation within the university community is limited to protect the integrity of the educational environment and the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Solicitation activities include, but are not limited to, requests for donations, sales, distribution of materials, or the promotion of goods, services, or causes.

Solicitation outside of university-sponsored or sanctioned activities must act in accordance with the following:

Campus Buildings (Non-Residential Life Areas)

1. All solicitation must receive approval from University Scheduling and Conference Services.
2. Solicitation is not permitted in classrooms . Faculty may invite solicitors as guest speakers when appropriate within the context of their class, but solicitation messages may not be posted within classrooms or academic buildings without approval from University Scheduling and Conference Services.
3. Distributing flyers or other promotional materials on vehicles parked on University property is prohibited.
4. All matters or activities concerning freedom of speech are addressed in the Campus Demonstrations Policy.

Residential Life Areas

1. Commercial solicitation is not permitted in the residence communities either by company representatives or students acting on their behalf.
2. Advertising for commercial enterprises is restricted within the residence communities.
3. Residents may invite a representative of a commercial enterprise to visit them in their room.
   1. Use of public space inside the residence communities is not allowed.
4. Non-commercial solicitation may occur in the residence communities.

Related Policies

Employees must follow Minnesota State System Procedure 1C.0.1 Employee Code of Conduct as is appropriate to solicitation on campus.

Employees and students must also follow the University’s Posting policy.
