The Future State

A Community Wellness and Recreation Complex

We’re not just rebuilding a stadium—we’re transforming the south side of Minnesota State University, Mankato’s campus into a vibrant destination for all. Picture this: new recreation fields, fitness trails, student housing and mixed-use retail. Think farmers markets, concerts, climbing walls, nature camps and year-round activity for all ages.

A southeast facing conceptual aerial view of a new Maverick stadium at the corner of stadium and Ellis Avenue. A new residence hall by the MSU berm. A new market area and our current track and baseball field in the background.

Replace Armstrong Hall for the Next Generation of Learners

From MSU Reporter Article - Armstrong Hall: The Long Wait, October 2, 2025 by Anahi Zuniga

Armstrong Hall is the largest academic building in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. It is a prominent landmark among students, alumni and faculty since 1964, and is known as the “workhorse” on campus.

Armstrong currently houses 50 of the 102 general classrooms, administrative offices for the College of Education and College of Humanities and Social Sciences, over 20 academic departments that provide various degree and certificate programs and 40% of all student courses — most being general education requirements. This makes the replacement of outdated facilities within the building urgent.
