What is Marital Status harassment?
Verbal or physical conduct that is directed at an individual because of that individual’s marital status, and that is sufficiently severe, pervasive, or persistent so as to have the purpose or effect of creating a hostile work or educational environment.
Examples Can Include:
- Degrading jokes or comments related to an individual’s marital status so to interfere with that individual’s work performance.
- Negatively commenting repeatedly about an individual’s spouse impacting that individual’s work performance.
- Repeatedly making disparaging comments about an individual’s work performance based on that individual having children and the belief that an employee with children isn’t as efficient, regardless of actual work performance.
