What is National Origin Harassment?
Verbal or physical conduct that is directed at an individual because that individual is from a certain country/part of the world, due to ethnicity or accent, or the individual appears to be of a specific ethnic background, regardless of the individual is or not, and that is sufficiently severe, pervasive, or persistent so as to have the purpose or effect of creating a hostile work or educational environment.
Examples Can Include:
- Ethnic slurs, jokes, offensive or derogatory comments, or other verbal or physical conduct directed at an individual because of that individual’s national origin.
- Harassment based on your friends, family, or other persons you associate with that are of a particular national origin.
- Harassment based on your participation in an ethnic organization or place of worship connected with a particular national origin.
