Crime Reporting Requirement
Minnesota State University is committed to safety. For the protection of all and to ensure compliance with federal legislation, any suspected criminal activity should be immediately reported to Security and or local law enforcement agencies. Appropriate action will be taken against any individual found responsible for unsafe acts in violation of University policy.
Community
If a threat to the campus community exists, Security will issue warnings via media services, the emergency broadcast phone system, postings online, Minnesota State Mankato’s web page, posters and the 24 hour Personal Safety Hotline.
Students
Students who may be involved in criminal activity may be handled through the University's student judicial system in addition to any legal proceedings.
Partners in Safety
Federal regulations require the University to compile and disclose statistics on crimes. Minnesota State Mankato publishes the "Partners in Safety" brochure which contains the required campus crime statistics data. Copies are available at Campus Security.
What you need to know
- All faculty, staff and students who become aware of alleged criminal activity, occurring on or near property used or owned by the University, should immediately report incidents to campus Security and/or to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Report a Crime Online
- The University will take appropriate action against anyone found responsible for unsafe acts in violation of this policy.
- Faculty, staff and students, should assist anyone else, wanting to report a crime, to contact Security and/or law enforcement.
- There is no penalty for good faith reporting of alleged crimes.
- When possible, victims' or witnesses' personally identifiable information will not be disclosed to law enforcement without consent unless reasonably necessary
